JACK KEROUAC

Jack Kerouac (1922-1969)

Jack Kerouac is one of the best known exponents of American travel literature. The rejection of imposed norms, materialism and war, the exaltation of freedom and spirituality permeate his writings, making him the father of the Beat Generation. In 1957, he published On the Road, an autobiographical novel based on a series of car journeys across the United States with his friend Neal Cassady. In On the Road, the journey is a metaphor for freedom and escape, an attempt to isolate oneself and discover the truth in solitude.
