Nicolas Bouvier (1929-1998)

Nicolas Bouvier is a Swiss-born traveller, photographer and writer known for publishing his travel story in 1963 in a work entitled The Way of the World. The novel recounts the journey Bouvier undertook in 1953 with his illustrator friend Thierry Vernet from Geneva to the Khaiber Pass on board a Fiat 500 topolino. The author retraces his adventures, paying particular attention to the encounters he made. Bouvier's account alternates prosaic and more lyrical moments, conveying how travelling is to be shaped by the countries crossed.
