Artistic residence
In conjunction with Biennale Arte 2022, Fondazione dell'Albero d'Oro presents a new and original project by Mexican artist Bosco Sodi at Palazzo Vendramin Grimani from 23 April to 27 November 2022. Curated by Daniela Ferretti and Dakin Hart, the solo exhibition of Sodi's paintings and sculptures entitled Bosco Sodi a Palazzo Vendramin Grimani. What Goes Around Comes Around will be preceded by a period of residence for the artist in the spaces of the palazzo.
Fondazione dell'Albero d'Oro will host Mexican artist Bosco Sodi at Palazzo Vendramin Grimani with an exhibition project curated by Daniela Ferretti and Dakin Hart.
Some of the works will be produced directly at Palazzo Vendramin Grimani by Sodi during an artistic residency in the palazzo, whose ground floor spaces will be partially transformed into his atelier from 28 February to 7 March 2022. The works will then be exhibited in the rooms on the piano nobile, dialoguing with the spaces and collections of the historic residence on the Grand Canal.
Visitors taking part in the guided tours of the palace will be able to see part of the residence during which works will be created that will enter into dialogue with the spaces and collections of the historic residence on the Grand Canal.
Bosco Sodi
Bosco Sodi (Mexico City, 1970) reveals the emotional power contained in the raw material of the elements he uses to create his works. His large, vividly coloured paintings evoke an intense and powerful Mother Earth. By focusing on exploring the possibilities of the material, on the creative gesture and the spiritual connection between the artist and the earth, Sodi aims to transcend conceptual barriers. Once Bosco Sodi starts painting, he continues until the completion of the work, almost without a break. His creative process is intense, performative, open to improvisation. It involves intense physical and emotional effort.
His solo exhibitions have been hosted by numerous international galleries. His works are to be found in leading public and private collections, including: Nasher Sculpture Center (Dallas), Walker Art Center (Minneapolis), The Phillips Collection (Washington D.C), Harvard Art Museums (Boston), JUMEX Collection (Mexico), Museum Voorlinden (Netherlands), Vitra Museum (Switzerland), Contemporary Art Foundation (Japan), Museum of Contemporary Art (Belgium), The National Gallery of Victoria (Australia) and the De la Cruz Collection (Puerto Rico).
