Gallienne, or the Power of Poetry | Fondazione dell’Albero d’Oro

On the occasion of the fifth edition of the Venise pour la francophonie festival, Fondazione dell'Albero d'Oro hosts the event Gallienne, or the Power of Poetry at Palazzo Vendramin Grimani on Saturday, March 22, at 6:00 PM.

The French poet Alicia Gallienne passed away, at the age of twenty in 1990, from an incurable illness. During the last four years of her courageous, heartbreaking, and passionate life, she wrote hundreds of poems. Published by Gallimard in 2020, these poems were translated into Italian in 2024. During this event, the book L’altra metà del sogno mi appartiene. Il libro nero (Molesini Editore, 2024) will be presented. Julien Zanetta (Ca' Foscari University of Venice) will discuss with Francesco Zambon, the translator and editor of the volume.

Alicia Gallienne

Alicia Gallienne (Paris, 1970 – 1990) died at the age of twenty from an incurable disease. Between 1986 and 1990, the last four years of her courageous, heartbreaking, and passionate life, she wrote hundreds of poems. Thanks mainly to her cousin, actor Guillaume Gallienne, her verses were "rediscovered" in February 2020, three decades after her death, and published by Gallimard under the title L’autre moitié du songe m’appartient. The book received extraordinary critical and public acclaim. "I don't care what I leave behind, all I need is for the matter to remember me, for the words that live in me to be written somewhere and outlive me."

Francesco Zambon

Francesco Zambon (Venice, 1949) is Emeritus Professor of Romance Philology at the University of Trento. An internationally renowned scholar, he has researched numerous aspects of medieval Latin and Romance allegorical and religious literature (bestiaries, the Grail myth, troubadours, Cathar heresy, mysticism). He has also written about several contemporary Italian and European poets. With this publishing house, he has published L’iride nel fango. L’anguilla di Eugenio Montale, edited Messaggio by Fernando Pessoa, and Il mio solo fratello. Ritratto di Goffredo Parise by Nico Naldini.

Julien Zanetta

Julien Zanetta (Geneva, 1984) has been teaching at the University of Ca' Foscari in Venice since 2023, after spending several years in the United States (Baltimore, Ann Arbor, New York) and in Brussels (Université Saint-Louis). His main research areas are Charles Baudelaire (on whom he focused his doctoral thesis and contributed to the edition of his Œuvres complètes for the Bibliothèque de la Pléiade), art criticism and aesthetics in the 19th century, the relationship between literature and painting, and the works of Jean Starobinski.
